Columbia Trail

Columbia Trail supports off-road bike trails, equestrian trails and more. In the fall of 1998, the Morris County Park Commission's negotiations with Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation were completed and the Columbia Trail came to be. The trail is a multi-use path with natural and gravel tread. Horseback riding, off road bicycling, hiking, and cross country skiing are all permitted on the trail. The trail is located in Washington Township and begins on the border with Mount Olive in the Bartley section of the township.

The land for the trail was donated by Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation as part of a deal to permit installation of a gas transmission pipeline, which runs from Hellerton, Pennsylvania to Hanover Township, New Jersey. The trail is located primarily on the former Central Railroad of the New Jersey-Central division of the High Bridge Line. The trail connects to Patriots' Path and parallels the South Branch of the Raritan River. The trail section in Hunterdon County runs for 7 miles, while the Morris County section connects to Schooley's Mountain Park at the Langdon Palmer Fishing Access Area on Fairview Avenue.
